Taking The First Step
The First Step - Del Monte Beach in Monterey, California
When I lost everything I had to find my true self. The feeling that “there is no one else like me” clouded my mind until I took the first step on my healing journey. That first step was by far the hardest and also unexpectedly the easiest. It was hard because of the situation I put myself in, loosing everything I cared about, yet easy because I was ready for help. Taking that step brought me to Harmony Place Monterey, in Monterey, California. Checking into a intensive trauma center, by far this was the most uncharacteristic thing I have done in my life and was also the most rewarding. I was alone, away from everything I knew, my family, my culture and my home. Removing myself from anything externally recognizable gave me the clarity to look internally. Two months of intensive therapy, five days a week, from 8:00am to 2:30pm group therapy sessions ranging from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Healing Shame & Self Hate, Interpersonal Boundaries, Cognitive Behavioral Processing for Trauma, Codependency, Sexual Health and most impactful Expressive Therapy. The realization that I was not alone changed my thinking 180 degrees. I found my voice and allowed myself to feel again.
